The Carp are feeding hard and heavy before the Winter.  Two regulars braved the weather today and were rewarded with two cracking Carp.  Paddy's fell to sweetcorn, while Al's was caught on maggots.

The fly lake was stocked last Friday with 300 triploid rainbow trout up to 4lb.  It was hard fishing for the first 2 days but most anglers are catching up to 25 trout per session.  The trout seem to be taking all sorts, but Bibio Snatchers and Cats whiskers are producing best catches at the moment.Facebook

Fishery report 1st July

Jack Byrne with his first fish..  ... on his first trip fishing!

Congratulations to Jack who was fishing for the first time with his Dad and his sister Holly at Corkagh Park this afternoon.  He caught his Perch on a float-fished single maggot.

There are many fish at the suface today, the warmth and the sun bringing them up in the water.  Most success will be had by fishing the bait near the surface rather than deeper.  Padje caught his first carp, a fish of 8lb on Thursday, and  also had a Rudd of 1.5 lbs and a 2lb Hybrid in the same session.

The trout are still being caught on small F-flies, in the surface layer, although the bright sun and flat calm conditions today were not the best for fishing, there were still lots of fish being caught.

Fishery report 24th June

There have been a total of four specimen sized hybrids caught in the coarse lake in a week.  Two of which unfortunately were returned without being weighed on a certified scales.  All four were 4lb+, 3 caught by Liam Brocklebank and one by Tomas.  There are still plenty of carp being caught on dog biscuits and flies...
The trout in the trout lake are still being a little difficult, but can be caught on emergers and small dries.  They are a little pre-occupied with small flies and corixa beetles.
Anto Kelly and a nice fly caught carp.

Fishery Report June 21st

Aaron, with a nice hybrid caught on Sunday morning.
The coarse lake is continuing to produce good fishing.  Many large hybrids are being caught and the carp are moving to surface baits.  All coarse fish that qualify as Irish specimens can be weighed on the fishery's certified scales.  Management will remove scale samples where needed and witness the fish prior to a claim.  All qualifying specimen's claimed from the Irish specimen fish committee caught at Corkagh Park will also earn you a voucher for two free day tickets for the fishery.
Specimens likely to be caught are: Roach/bream (3.53lbs) or rudd/bream hybrids (2.64lbs+) Carp (12lb+) and there is a possibility of specimen bream (7.5lbs) and tench (6lbs).

The trout are proving a little awkward, feeding just subsurface and ignoring many offerings, but persistence will pay off.  Successful flies are shiphams buzzers, small bibios and f-flies.
The trout lake has had weed cutting done today, so it should be settled down again by tomorrow.

Fishery report 15th June

Brocko with a specimen Bream Hybrid of 4lb 6 ozs caught this afternoon.  Brocko was using a maggot feeder rig with maggots as hookbait on a quivertip rod.  Even the bright sunlight hasn't stopped the coarse anglers from catching some nice fish, this is one of two very large hybrids caught by Brocko this afternoon.  The specimen weight for Hybrids is currently 3lbs.

On the trout lakes there were lots of fish moving at the surface but they were proving difficult to catch on dries, most success was with nymphs and emergers fished in the surface layers.

Fishery Report June 10th

The inclement weather conditions have meant a mixed week of fishing.  Anto Kelly, pictured nearest the camera, not to be outdone by Mick managed a 6 lb Carp on the fly later on Sunday.  Do we credit Mick with the lessons??  I am hoping to see a photo of Anto's fish soon.  Anto also has had quite a bit of success on the trout lake during the week.  Other catches listed in thew returns include Paul McBrien, who had 21 trout on tuesday, Greg Long had 12 on wednesday mainly to small size 16 dries, Dean Kehoe had 11 on thursday while Jimmy Finnegan hasd eight.  The fish are rising in the trout lake but are quite selective at the moment meaning some frustrating times until you find the flies they want.  However boobies pulled accross the top are still moving fish, though hook-ups are difficult as many are not taking the fly properly.

Fishery report May 27th

The trout lake is still producing, Ray Harris had over 10 fish in an hour and a half on Wednesday even in the difficult fishing conditions.  The Gale force winds have kept many anglers away over the last week.  Conditions are set to improve slightly over the weekend.  Small dry flies are still proving successful, as are damsel nymphs, conditions have not allowed anglers to fish buzzers.

There is some movement of Carp around the margins, but wind conditions have made it almost impossible to fish since my last report.

Fishery report 23rd May

The trout lake has been producing big catches over the weekend.  Gianluca Paoleua had over 20 fish each day friday and Saturday.  Graham Prizeman Had over 20 on Friday, and according to the catch returns 16+ on Sunday.  It is hard to keep count when catching lots of fish.   Little fishing was done on the coarse lake due to the high winds.

Please could all anglers fill in their catch returns before leaving the fishery.  This can be done anonymously, but your returns help me to let you know what is happening on the lakes.

Fishery report May 17th

Anto Kelly with a nice fish caught on a small dry bibio hopper.  The trout are feeding quite freely at the surface this week.  Anto Kelly has been having success all this week with dry flies.  Again there has not been much angling done on the trout lake this week.  The lake is due to be stocked on Friday, so these fresh fish should be giving good sport over the weekend.  These new fish should get some of the resident big fish more aggressive and active so I am expecting some big fish catches next week.

On the coarse lake mixed nets of rudd, roach and perch are sometimes made more interesting by the occasional tench.   As usual the carp are proving difficult during the day.  Morning and evening are best, but the strong winds have made margin and surface fishing difficult.

Brock fishing for silver fish on the pole, watched closely by the advisory committee...

fishery report 11th May

The fishing in the coarse lake is very good at the moment.  Al had four carp between 6 & 8 lb in one session yesterday.  Brock had a nice net of roach/rudd and hybrids today on a quivertip and feeder set-up. These included some nice roach and rudd as seen in the pictures.  Other anglers have also been successful both for the carp and for silver fish (rudd, roach etc.) and although the fish need to be treated as wild fish, care, quiet and fine tackle there are good results being obtained by many visitors.

Trout are to be seen moving at the surface again, but probably due to Mayfly hatches on the loughs and some rivers fishing has been quiet on the trout lake.  Again, although no large catch returns have been recorded this week, many anglers were catching a few fish with a persistent and careful approach.

Fishery Report 6th May

Sawyer Lewis from Clonsilla with a lovely Triploid Rainbow caught today.  (Buzzer nymph)

The trout lake has been producing a lot of Perch over the last week.  Anto Kelly had 14 of them one afternoon plus a roach on buzzer nymphs.  He did manage a few trout also.
Gianluca Padella had eight trout and six Perch on Sunday, again on red cheeked buzzers.  A Fritz fished on a sinking line is also producing trout, however top of the water fishing is proving a little difficult and sporadic until the evenings.
Carp are still much in evidence on the Coarse Lake, mainly falling to maggots and some on sweetcorn.
Brocko managed a trio of Tench in one session during the week, fishing block-end feeder and maggots.  The silver fish are still very much in evidence, many first-time anglers managing to catch when fishing close in to the reeds.

Fishery report April 29th

There has been an upturn on the coarse lake with quite a few roach and other fish being caught by Children all week.  Most fish are being caught close to the weeds.  Last weekend the Carp were busy trying to spawn, this should be over now and the Carp should be feeding heavily to build up their strength.
The trout lake has been quiet all week, but the fish are still feeding early in the day, becoming a little dour later on until towards evening.  Small black flies and buzzers are working best.

Fishery report 22nd April 2012

Fishing on the trout lake has been a little slow.  This may be due to the weed-cutting that took place during the week.  This should keep the fishery in tip-top condition until the next cutting in about six weeks time.
There are plenty of carp being caught on the Coarse Lake, along with silver fish and a few tench appearing.  For the carp and tench I would recommend using a pop-up bait as there is low level weed to contend with.  There were more than a dozen large carp feeding around the margins earlier today when I was around the lake, they were feeding with their heads down and tails in the air, prime targets for anyone wanting a little bit of stalking.

I would ask anglers to fill in catch returns before leaving the fishery, you may do it anonymously if you don't want your name mentioned, so that we can report more accurately.

Fishery report 15th April.

There are a few carp still being caught, Paul Newell had three on maggots this morning.  The roach are still slow to show themselves, but there are enormous shoals of small fish from last years spawning.  This bodes well for future stocks.  In the meantime a concerted approach combined with sensible groundbaiting should produce a good bag of fish to any angler willing to put a few hours in.

On the fly lake the trout are still coming to buzzers and small black flies.  Fry imitations are also producing good fishing as there are a number of trout regularly feeding on the roach fry (1.5-2.5inches)
Minkies should also produce a few fish as will the tadpoles and damsel nymphs.  Current catch rates are averaging 1.5 to 2 fish per hour on the lake with some anglers doing better.

Fishery report April 11th

The fishery was very busy over the weekend.  The good weather brought many anglers out.  Unfortunately few anglers logged their catch into the office, but there were quite a few anglers stuck in fish while I was there.  Thomas Ryan had two carp, both commons weighing 8 and 6 lb.  The silver fish were quite co-operative with many kids catching a few close in to the bank.
On the fly lake, lures and tadpoles seemed to be working better than the buzzers in the bright sunshine although there were fish feeding at the surface they were not interested in dries or flies fished in the surface  layers.

Fishery report 8th April

As expected the carp fishing has switched on.  Paul Newell had 6 fish in a couple of hours yesterday, and another 10 carp and a five-and a half pound tench this morning in another two hour session.  The coarse lake seems to be fishing best early in the day.

The Fly lake on the other hand is fishing best in the evenings.  Current closing is at 7 pm.  On Tuesday Ray Harris had 10 to buzzers in the morning, Greg Long had 17, most to buzzer in a four hour session.  Paddy Mc Loughlin had four, and Gar murphy had 3 on a lure, and Noel Bennet had three on a gold bead nymph.
Wednesday saw Jimmy Finnegan with nine fish on lures and buzzers, and Paul Newell had 10 on buzzers for the day.
On Thursady, Jimmy Finnegan had 10 fishing lures and buzzers again, Paul McBrien had 11 on lures in a three hour session.  Dry fly was successful for Jimmy Duggan, throwing three fish into the bag.

Conditions look promising for the weekend.

Fishery report 4th April

Fishing over the weekend suffered due to adverse weather conditions, Jimmy Duggan had 6 fish on a green Tadpole while Darren Finnegan had four on buzzers before thunder and lightening forced them to abandon the fishing.  The fishery was quiet on Sunday, probably due to it being Mother's Day.  There are plenty of carp showing on the coarse lake, although angling pressure is very light here at the moment.  With the weather warming up quite nicely the carp fishing is sure to throw up a few good catches later on this month.

Fishery report April 1st.

The fishery was on top form today.  One angler had three Carp including these two of 9lb 3oz and 8 lb 12oz.  All caught on popped up ledgered sweetcorn on a sliding ledger despite very windy conditions.
Meanwhile on the trout lake strong winds today made fishing hard work, but despite the difficulty Ray Harris had over 20 trout on small wet flies in two and a half hours of fishing this morning.  The successful flies were a small bibio and a peter ross fished almost static/slow retrieve over buzzer feeding fish.
Greg Long spent five hours fishing, using both buzzer nymphs early on and a team of small size 14 hoppers in black and sooty olive as the wind picked up further to take over forty trout for the day to well over 3 lbs in weight despite the strong gusting winds.  Both Greg and Ray were fishing floating lines.  End of day totals for other anglers fishing the lakes are not in yet, but even with adverse conditions it looks good for the weekend.
Anglers reported some big trout rising to flies at the surface, but with the blustery conditions it was hard to keep the flies fishing naturally.  The other side of the coin however meant the fresh water and oxygenating effect of the wind left the fish in fine fighting form, many making long spectacular runs and others pitching and cartwheeling in an effort to throw the hooks.   Even from a spectator's point of view the fishing was exciting.

Fishery Update 18th March.

There has been little fishing in the coarse lake, but the Carp are in much evidence, often sunning themselves in the sluice gate corner.  Some anglers fishing the lake for general coarse fish have hooked and lost one or two of the Carp so prospects look good.

On the fly lake there has been plenty of action.  Jimmy Finnegan had over 40 fish on Sunday, with plenty of double figure catches being made by anglers fishing a combination of either buzzers & apses, or long tailed flies such as damsel nymphs.  There are plenty of roach fry in the fly lake at the moment and some of the rainbows are feeding on these, so minkies and other fry imitations should work over the coming week-end.

The Carp lake will be open to fly-angling for the carp from May.  This will be limited, so booking will be essential.  Contact the fishery office 01 4592625 to book.

Angling report for March 14th.

The trout lake is continuing to fish well with lots of fish coming to buzzers and apse fished below an indicator.  The fish seem to be a little reluctant to take moving flies at the moment, and many of the fish taking the suspended flies are taking them very lightly and softly.  This being said there are half day double figure catches featuring prominently with many of the regular anglers.  At times they are almost catching a fish every cast when they find a pocket of feeding fish.  This is the trick for success, the buzzer hatches are very localised at the moment, some being literally in an area of about 20 feet in diameter, outside of the circle and the takes are very few, in the spot and it's a fish almost immediately, while the hatch continues.  This situation should improve over the next week or so with improving fly hatches.  Meanwhile the key is to search the water until feeding fish are found.

Today there were signs of large buzzers appearing, some almost half an inch long.  If these larger flies start hatching consistently sport should be very good and some of the heavy double figure fish should start appearing in catch returns.

Carp are still showing near the surface in the coarse lake, but angling here is light.   Here's hoping the lakes record of 12lb+ tumbles very soon, these young fish are getting bigger every year!

Fishery update March 7th.

Glenda Powell with one of her charges.

Catches on both fisheries are much improved over the last week.  The fly lake has been stocked with over 600 triploid rainbows and these have also stirred up the resident fish.  Both lures and buzzer nymphs are working with some large catches being made on both methods.  Dublin Angling initiative ran a very successful day on the fly lake on Saturday with over 30 children learning the sport of fly-fishing, and a few adults too!.

On the coarse lake the Carp are now moving around and much more active, with approximately two dozen sunning themselves at the surface near the outflow today.  They were moving to loose fed dog biscuits on the top, but as you would expect they were still very cautious of hook-baits.  I would expect a few big catches to start coming out soon

Thursday, March 3, 2011

The fishing is picking up...

The warm weather for the last week has woken up the fish in both lakes.  There are a few flies hatching and the trout are moving to them through the middle of the day.  The first Carp of the year was caught on the coarse lake last weekend, and today there were carp moving at the surface near the out flows.  We would still recommend loose feeding rather than heavy groundbaiting until the water warms up further.

The trout lake is due to be stocked on Friday, and on Saturday the Dublin Angling Initiative are holding an open day at the fishery.  This stocking should liven up the older stock fish, and hopefully some big fish will start putting in an appearance in the catch returns again.  With the warmer weather the fishing of natural imitations and buzzer nymphs should start producing better results again.  Klinkhamers and other emergers should also start to take fish while the flies are hatching.

Come see us at Irish Angling Expo in Swords this weekend.

We have a free draw for a years full membership (both Lakes) worth €350.  Also for memberships bought at the Exhibition this weekend we have a special price, Full annual membership of both lakes for the price of one, € 250 instead of 350, or if you want membership for just one lake (coarse/carp or the fly lake/trout) we are offering these at €200 instead of €250.  These offers are only for the period of the Expo!!! Saturday and Sunday 12th & 13th February.

Meanwhile there has been very little fishing on the coarse lake, but the fly lake has started to pick up with trout to over 4lb being caught this week.  The fish have been caught on green tadpoles fished on sinking lines, and on both buzzers and blobs/egg-flies, mainly fished static.  One angler had 6 fish this afternoon with two of them over 4lb weight fishing an orange blob on the point with two buzzers below a sight-bob.  His set-up was one buzzer at 12" the other at 6 feet, the blob at a depth of 10 feet.  He caught on all three flies, which is good news suggesting the fish are becoming more active and rising up in the water.

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Update February 8th

Fishing has been quiet due to the weather.  Anglers on the fly lake have been catching a few fish, earlier in the week on dawl-bachs and buzzers, but after the heavy rain the water is slightly coloured, consequently bright flies such as blobs and egg-flies were more productive today.  The best method was fished static below a sight bob.
The water should start warming from now on and hopefully the fish will start moving up in the water.

Update 1st February

The fishing returns have been very slow for the last week with few anglers fishing, consequently there is not much to report.
I would like to inform any anglers currently unemployed at the moment that we do offer 1/2 price fishing Monday to Friday, excluding Bank holidays, for those with a recent benefit receipt or similar proof of unemployment or illness benefit.

Corkagh Park Fishery Update 23-01-2011

Fishing over the weekend was quite slow with the cold weather.  On the trout lake some fish were being caught, mainly on damsel nymphs.  The lakes are now free of ice again, but few anglers ventured out in the cold weather.  Fishing should improve with a rise in temperatures, but at the moment there is little or no insect life with an absence of buzzer hatches due mainly to the severe cold.

Welcome to Corkagh Park Fishery.

At the moment there is little fishing on the coarse lake, however the Fly-fishing in the trout lake is still producing results.  Young Raymond Harris junior caught a fish on his second cast today on his own tied fly!
If his dad isn't careful young Ray will start out-fishing him.  The successful fly was an orange fritz.  Other flies doing the business at the moment are damsel nymphs and flies with a little wiggle in the tail, fished slowly at varied depths.
Contact the fishery on 01 4592625.  For January the fishery office is only open at the weekend, midweek, permits can be bought at the Caravan Park offices.
Prices currently are:

Corkagh Park Fishery

The lakes at Corkagh Park Fisheries are the biggest leisure angling lakes in Dublin. Opened in June of 2004, this superb fishery comprises two lakes; a coarse lake and a trout lake that together form approximately seven and a half acres of fishing space.

Both lakes have fishing stands and piers, wheelchair accessable, providing easy access for all anglers. The lakes are fed by the Camac River with branches feeding into each lake.

Corkagh Park Fisheries is managed on behalf of South Dublin County Council by BK Management Ltd. The company has a long established relationship with the council also managing the adjoining Camac Valley, Tourist Camping Park. There are a full range of facilities on site including tuition, equipment rental, bait, toilets and Coffee Shop.

The lakes are open all year round except Christmas Day. Opening hours are from 9:30am until dusk.
